What is CTR?

CTR - Cosplayers 4 Tolerance & Respect

What is it about?

Cosplayers 4 Tolerance & Respect (CTR) is a non-commercial fan-initiative to promote the idea and values of Cosplay and opt for more respect and tolerance for and among Cosplayers.

In our relatively short involvement with the cosplay community, we've run into quite a lot of misunderstanding, prejudice, and negativity and insults, both from outsiders AND from inside the community. Most of these were/are based on the non-understanding and rumors that float around when it comes to Cosplayers and their hobby, and on jealousy and envious feelings from fellow Cosplayers.

There are two target groups we focus on: Outsiders to the hobby, and other Cosplayers.

Outsiders:
If you're a Cosplayer, you've probably encountered the problem: people who insult you at random and nitpick about your costumes, obviously thinking they know everything - even though the aren't even Cosplayers themselves. We thought it is about time to show people that we are more than just a bunch of freaks with identity problems, to make them see that the hobby of Cosplay is something that requires a lot of time, patience, dedication, and yes - money, and that we are proud of what we are and what we do.

Other cosplayers/the Cosplay community:
Sadly, some of that negativity also comes from within the "community" - I've watched Cosplayers pick on each other, competing and fighting violently over who is better or more beautiful, has the most accurate and original costumes, and what not. While cosplaying contests and competitions are FUN and very productive, this specific form of personal competition is something that can spoil the fun and damage the community.
A community should be feeding on mutual respect and cooperation, instead of jealousy and hatred. Cosplayers everywhere should help and support each other, and share their knowledge and experiences without looking for personal advantage over others.

These are the ideas CTR represents. If you agree with what was stated above - then YOU should be a part of it!

How does it work, and what do I have to do?

CTR is NOT a club. There is NO membership fee, and there are NO obligations for anyone. It's a graphical symbol for an IDEA. If you like the idea and want to participate and try to help create a wider understanding for the hobby of cosplay and the community - all you have to do is grab our logo and spread the word!
